Music at GABC
The music ministry is a vibrant part of worship at GABC. If you have a love for music, we have a place for you to serve!
The sanctuary choir is the core of the music program at Glen Allen Baptist. The choir meets on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 – 9:00 PM throughout the year. The choir leads in worship on Sunday mornings and usually presents an anthem in the service. In addition, the choir presents a full music program at Christmas and Easter time. The choir is open to men and women from high school age and up. No audition is necessary. Members do not need to be proficient in reading music; all that is required is a joy in singing and enthusiasm for the choir’s ministry.
The chime choir is open to children in grades 2-5. They rehearse after the Wednesday dinners from 6:15 until about 6:40. The focus is on reading rhythms and music notes as well as proper ringing technique. No previous experience is required. They play in several worship service throughout the year.
The praise band, called 221, is an active part of our worship. The band has instruments such as guitar, bass, drums and piano. They are scheduled to play one Sunday a month and they often take part in special services such as the Christmas Eve service. The focus of the band is on contemporary Christian music, but they also play hymns and other traditional church music. Rehearsals are scheduled on an ad-hoc basis.
GABC owns a 3-octave set of Malmark handbells, but the bell choir currently does not have a regular rehearsal schedule. We are working on firming up a new rehearsal time.
We often have opportunities for special music in our worship services or other gatherings. Soloists and instrumentalist are encouraged to participate and lead us with their talents in our worship services.
