Alma Hunt Offering for State Missions

Please prayerfully consider a gift to state missions during the month of October.  Although you may give at any time, our emphasis is through October.  Alma Hunt “was a native Virginian who was known worldwide for her missions’ service and her unswerving dedication to the cause of Christ.”  The Alma Hunt offering is a joint venture of the Virginia Women’s Missionary Union and the Baptist General Association of Virginia that helps fund special ministries and outreach projects not funded through regular giving.  The statewide goal is $1,167,500.  There are envelopes for this offering in your pack of envelopes and in the pew racks.  The date on the envelopes (September 17-23) was the week of prayer for state missions, but please feel free to give at any time.

Virginia Baptist Disaster Response Team

Virginia Baptist Disaster Response Team – Virginia Baptists have been very busy feeding volunteers in North Carolina and now are in Georgia. They continue providing assistance with debris cleanup in North Carolina.  They also provide showers and laundry services for the volunteers.  Before demobilizing the feeding station in North Carolina, they had served more than 35,600 meals.  Georgia Baptists have requested the Disaster Response Team’s assistance.  Areas in Georgia may be without power for a month.  The Virginia team was expected to arrive on October 16.  Please be in prayer for the Virginia Baptist Response Team volunteers as they work to provide the help needed in hurricane damaged areas.  This is one way our donations to state missions are used.  If anyone is interested in volunteering in Georgia, please visit BGAVDR.org.

Glen Allen Day is Coming!

Glen Allen Day is right around the corner!  It is hard to believe that it is less than a month away.  As always, we need YOUR help!  On Saturday, October 20th, Glen Allen Baptist Church will participate in a couple of different parts of the program as usual.  Debbie Gordon is heading up the float for this year and help is always needed.  If you are able to help with the float, please reach out to Debbie in person, or you can reach her at debbiejgordon@verizon.net .  In addition, we need volunteers to help run our booth in the vendor area.  We need volunteers who are willing to work two-hour shifts during the day from the following times:  9:00 – 11:00 AM, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, and 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.  During this time you would hand out information about the church and spread the joy of what we do here at GABC.  If you are able to help during any of these shifts, please contact Matt Davidson

  • Cookies – I need a lot more cookies.  1 Dozen per quart size bag as early as possible, but no later than 10/16.
  • Prayer – If you will pray anytime between noon 10/16 to 3PM on 10/21, please provide Tom your first name as he will add it to a paper prayer chain that is a powerful testimony to God’s love for these men.
  • Focused Prayer – If you will sign up for a specific 30 minute prayer time slot on 10/18 from noon to 3:30 PM, as we will add your name to a prayer wheel showing the guys that someone is praying for them 24 hours a day during this event.
