bootsie_reidREID, Mary Frances “Bootsie” Hockaday, 78, of Henrico, went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2016, after bravely battling a long illness. She was born to the late William and Ruth Hockaday. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 63 years, Walter; daughters, Laura (Tom) and Tracy (Bill); three grandsons, Richard, Darryl and Justin; sisters, Shirley and Ellen; brother, Ronald. She was preceded in death by brothers, William and Michael. Mary was a past member of the Eastern Star and a member of Glen Allen Baptist Church. She was happiest when she was with her family on whom she showered unconditional love and devotion. Her selfless caring and generosity touched many lives. She was extremely creative, loved and admired by all who were fortunate to know her, and was the best cook in the world. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 19, 2016, 4 to 8 p.m. at Bliley’s-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, 2 p.m., at Glen Allen Baptist Church. Interment Glen Allen Baptist Church Cemetery.

Shirley Harris Obituary

Shirley P. Harris, 85, of Glen Allen, went to be with the Lord, May 10, 2016. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Kenneth Harris Sr.; her sons, Kenneth Harris Jr., David Harris and his wife, Laura; three grandchildren, Capt. Nathan Harris (USAF), Nicole, and Casey Harris. Her beloved dogs, Molly and Cody. Shirley was a retired secretary of Glen Allen Baptist Church for over 20 years and it was a job that she dearly loved. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2016, at Bliley’s Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Glen Allen Baptist Church. Interment will be private.

Junie Corker Obituary

CORKER, James Tinsley Jr., 87, of Richmond, passed away March 19, 2016. He was preceded in death by his son, James Tinsley Corker III. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Dymacek Corker; daughter, Sandra Corker Pool (Robin); daughter-in-law, Donna Cawood Corker; four grandchildren, Megan Corker Ariail (Casey), Brittany Corker, Melissa and Robert Pool; two sisters, Patsy Corker Hicks and Faye Corker Shelton. Mr. Corker was born on May 10, 1928 in Mineral, Va. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked for the American Oil Company and Southern States Cooperative, where he retired after 27 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. A memorial service will be held 12 noon Wednesday, at Bliley’s-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Glen Allen Baptist Church Youth Yard Sale and BBQ

The GABC Annual Yard Sale and BBQ is coming on March 19 from 6 a.m. to noon. Our goal is to pre-sell 250 lbs. of BBQ. We are selling a meal for $20.00 (this includes 2 lbs. of BBQ, 1 pint of slaw and 8 buns) OR you can purchase BBQ by the pound for $8.00/lb. Please pay when you sign up for your purchase. BBQ will be ready for pick up on Saturday, March 19 at 8 a.m. and must be picked up by noon. If you would like to donate items for yard sale (no TV’s or computers), volunteer to help, or purchase BBQ, please contact Pamela Steinruck at All proceeds benefit youth mission trips.
